A promise carries when it is due, and your phone says so

A task used to remember when it was promised and nothing else. "Send Olena the contract by Friday" went onto the list as "Send Olena the contract", and Friday was lost on the way. A task list that cannot tell you what is next is only half a task list.

From 7 October 2026 a task carries the moment it is due.

  • Read from the message. When the nightly review turns a promise into a task, a deadline said in the conversation comes with it. A bare day becomes 09:00 on that day, because nobody said an hour.
  • Or set by you. Every task row has a date and time you can change, and the add-task form has a field for one.
  • A date that makes no sense is dropped, not the task. A deadline before the day of the promise, or more than a year after it, is most likely a misreading, so the task is kept and the date is left empty for you to fill in.

Your phone, or any browser where you turned notifications on, hears about it twice:

  1. An hour before a task falls due, a notification names the promise.
  2. At 08:00 a short list of what is due that day, or the task itself when there is only one.

Both times are yours to change on the Notifications page in the app, and reminders can be switched off there entirely. A reminder the server could not send on the minute goes out as soon as it can, and never twice.

One thing changed in what a notification carries. Until now a notification held a date and a link and nothing else. A reminder that says only "a task is due" is not worth the interruption, so this one carries the text of the promise, which means that line passes through Apple's or Google's push service on its way to your phone. The notification that a day's note is ready still carries no names and no quotes.

A task written before this change has no due date, and rings nobody until you give it one.
