Telegram is read through your own login, not a bot

Until this change Tracebrain read Telegram through a bot sitting on top of your account. That was a second way into the same messages, and it was the wrong one.

A bot cannot see history. It only receives what arrives after it is connected, so your first profile of a person started empty no matter how many years of conversation sat above it. It also did not know whose account it was reading after a restart, and attributed messages you had sent to the person you sent them to.

Telegram is now read over your own login, the same session the setup wizard creates when you scan the code. What changes for you:

  • All of your one-to-one history is available, not just the messages sent after you connected. The first version of your memory is written from conversations you had before you ever heard of Tracebrain.
  • Nothing is sent from your account. The login is used to read. Tracebrain does not write messages, join chats or mark anything as read.
  • You can end it from Telegram. Settings, Devices, and the session is gone, the same way you would sign out an old phone.

Live events alone are not enough: whatever arrives while the connector is offline would simply be missing. So a catch-up pass runs on top of them every fifteen minutes, over the chats the dialog list says have spoken since the last pass, and an identical line is never appended twice.

Groups, channels and bot chats are still skipped. One-to-one conversations are what a person's profile is written from.
